Clashindarroch Wind Farm

Objections requested to Beaulie - Denny Transmission Line

A proposal has been submitted to upgrade the high voltage transmission line from Beauly to Denny from 132kV to 400kV with a substantial increase in the size of the supporting pylons. This involves 220 km of new pylons ( 600 in total) varying in height between 136 feet and 211 feet (the current ones vary between 81 and 133 feet). Bob Graham has requested support in objecting to the proposal.

As many of you are aware, Scottish and Southern Energy plc have submitted their application for the Beauly to Denny transmission line upgrade. This involves 220 km of new pylons ( 600 in total) varying in height between 136 feet and 211 feet (the current ones vary between 81 and 133 feet).

Before proceeding let me remind you that Scotland does not need an upgraded grid system. This upgrade is purely to support all the windfarm applications that have been submitted and allow the power generated to be sent south. In other words NO WINDFARMS - NO PYLONS and conversely NO PYLONS - VERY FEW WINDFARMS.

It is paramount that we lodge as many objections to this upgrade as possible and I beg you to give this your utmost attention. It is obviously vital that you pass this request on to as many like-minded friends as possible.

There are 5 local authorities involved ( Highlands, Stirling, Perth and Kinross, Falkirk, and Clackmannan) but it will suffice to object to the whole project, i.e. "The Beauly to Denny Upgrade". The Scottish Executive will pass all objections to the local authorities concerned.

The address to send your objection to is

Mr David Ray.

Details of this application are available from the following sources. Detailed maps are available from the SSE website.

A phone call to Scottish and Southern Energy plc at Inveralmond House, 200 Dunkeld Road, Perth. PH1 3AQ, on 0800 223377 will probably get anyone the address where they can access the relevant information in their area. A set of CD's of The Environmental Statement is also available at £50 a throw from the above address, and a non-technical summary is available on the SSE web sitewww.scottish-southern.co.uk. A £300 copy of the complete one and half million words of "erudition" is also available from Richard Cook, SE Transmission line Ltd, again at the above address, and from Angela Milne at SP Transmission Ltd, New Alderstone House, Dove Wynd, Strathclyde Business Park,Bedllshill, ML4 3FF.

It is not necessary to say why you object, but it would make sense to put down a few reasons, such as :

Scotland does not need this upgrade.
Visual Impact.
Damage to the environment.
Threat to wildlife and habitat
Increased electro-magnetic pollution with associated health implications.
Damage to the economy (tourist industry)
Devaluation of property.
